The three general areas at the right show the warm (yellow) and
cool season (blue) grasses that are used within the United States.
In the transition zone (purple), a mixture of these two grass types
is sometimes used. The transitional zone generally favors the cool
season grasses over the warm season grasses.
Lawn striping can best be achieved in the areas that contain the
cooler season grasses. Depending upon your area, type of lawn and
the amount of care provided, striping can also be achieved within
the transitional zone. It is difficult to create lawn striping patterns
within the warm (yellow) season zone. Although difficult, it can
be done by over seeding with cool season grasses.
